Desert Institute at Joshua Tree National Park

Joshua TreeKlasky teaches at the Joshua Tree National Park Desert Institute as part of the University of California at Riverside Extension Program, and is adjunct faculty at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute and Extension Programs at the California State University San Bernardino College of Extended Learning.  Course content includes an overview of the history of the indigenous peoples of the area, the impacts of contact, cultural preservation and revitalization, and current issues.  Culture keepers and scholars, including linguist and musician Ernest Siva (Serrano), Salt Song Project Co-director/NALC Matthew Leivas, Sr. (Chemehuevi), and anthropologist Dr. Lowell John Bean contribute to the workshops.
